Big Remo

Raleigh, NC

Once part of the Winston-Salem-based group The A.L.L.I.E.S., Big Remo has recently relocated to Raleigh, where he’s now closer both to his longtime producer 9th Wonder and a somewhat renewed Triangle hip-hop scene. Remo’s rocking-chair poeticism, as exhibited on the 9th Wonder-produced fan favorite “Wonderbread Like Me,” is more back-alley than front porch, leaving enough room for the passion and prudence it takes to be an effective emcee.

With the chance to record both rabid rap anthems like “Baking Soda” and socially aware song’s like “Strange," a duo with hip-hop icon and activist David Banner, Remo might finally get the exposure he’s been awaiting. Recently, he and 9th Wonder formed a rap duo called “The Real Rap Athletes, which, if anything, will continue to leave us astonished with Remo’s track record and other rappers jealous of the fact that 9th Wonder is, in a way, handing Remo the rap baton by rapping with him. —Eric Tullis
