DJ George Brazil

Charlotte’s DJ George Brazil (nee Ryan Miller) is ubiquitous in the Queen City’s music scene. Whether supplying keys and samples to Black Congo NC (who also perform at Hopscotch), paired with DJ Christian Ryan as the New Wave Hookers, or on his own, Miller’s affection for dense beats and potent hooks has made him a deft dancefloor driver. His energy, enthusiasm and ear for the right beat have moved him beyond Charlotte and into collaborations with Chapel Hill’s Juan Huevos and Columbia, S.C.’s rising chillwave star (paradox, or no?) Toro Y Moi.

With DJ George Brazil manning the decks at Hopscotch, expect hip hip-shakers for fans of Hot Chip or Junior Boys and sharp remixes, like his inventive and cavernous take on EAR PWR’s “Super Animal Bros III,” or his steadily building disco cut “Queen City Boogie.”  —Bryan Reed
