Thee Tom Hardy
Thee Tom Hardy is probably having more fun right now than any guy in the so-called freshman class of rappers currently being co-signed by your favorite glossy hip-hop magazine. But his fun has little to do with his equidistance between his own production team and crew, Band Geeks, Raleigh beat ogre Khrysis and 9th Wonder’s Grammy- winning production. He’s been reaping the benefits of those relationships since the release of his Don Cannon-hosted mixtape The Hardy Boy Mystery Mixtape: “Curse of Thee Green Faceded.” The mixtape marked Hardy’s official introduction as an eager white emcee from Durham with a knack for mischief, wordplay and the undeniable gift of furnishing the nuttiest rap lines we’ve ever heard. That’s the fun part.
As a Jamla/ The Academy signee, hopefully Hardey will soon have more playing room for songs like “Epic Beard Man,” where he can both ask and answer silly questions like, “Super Soaker/ Who is doper? Nobody is, see?/ Who is doing what I’m doing?/ Nobody but me.” Agreed. —Eric Tullis
