Justin Sullivan has worked behind the drum kit for Kevin Morby’s band The Babies for many years and currently plays in the psych-punk outfit Flat Worms. But last year, he struck out on his own under the name Night Shop, recording a slew of guitar-driven pop songs and melancholic, unhurried folk rock. After nearly two decades in the business, Sullivan plays with an easy confidence that makes 2017’s self-titled debut EP feel more like a masterwork. On Morby’s Mare label, he will soon release In the Break, a spirited set of self-reflections led by one of the year’s true pop-rock gems, “The One I Love.”
