S.E. Ward

Chapel Hill, NC

A transplant via Vermont, S.E. Ward has become a Triangle music fixture during the last several years. On Leaving, Ward’s first effort with a full band, she flaunts her songwriting and vocal chops through a master class in emotion that moves from haunting to angry in just four tracks. Shoegazing pop with unequal parts fuzzy guitars, dreamy vocals, foot-stomping percussion, and melancholy lyrics, these “somber big guitar tunes” are big and magnetic, a pleasantly unexpected marriage of lyrical introspection and toe-tapping lure.
