2011 Day Parties Announced
Submitted on Jul 15, 2011
On April 20, the 2011 Hopscotch Music Festival lineup and ticket sale were announced. In early June, 14 bands were added and the schedule was made public. This past Wednesday, we revealed The Edward McKay Artist and Author Series, including panel discussions with Wayne Coyne, Patterson Hood, Rhys Chatham, Mark Richardson and many more. And today, with the debut of this year’s Day Party lineup, Hopscotch weekend becomes more dynamic and complete.

From Thursday, September 8 to Sunday, September 11, Hopscotch and downtown Raleigh will play host to no less than twenty afternoon shows in venues ranging from a parking lot in the Warehouse District to Dive Bar on Glenwood Avenue to Fox Liquor Bar, Ashley Christensen’s soon-to-be-open cocktail and tap room on Martin St. All parties are FREE to the public and occur between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Highlighted by Hopscotch’s Block Party in front of the Lincoln Theatre on Saturday, Sept. 10, with Raleigh’s own Merge recording artist The Rosebuds, this year’s slate of day shows builds upon the simple idea that more music is more fun for everyone. Youth Lagoon, Idaho’s newest favorite son, and Ben Sollee, the people’s cellist from Louisville, compliment Durham’s Hammer No More the Fingers, Shirlette & The Dynamite Brothers and more. Be sure to grab a plate from AC Restaurants onsite, as the proceeds will benefit The Frankie Lemmon Foundation, a local nonprofit supporting the education of children with special needs.
Not to be outdone, Portland, Ore.-based Hometapes and their Durham mates Trekky Records have teamed to create The Blount Street Block Party with Brice Randall Bickford, Sunless, Butterflies, The Caribbean, All Tiny Creatures, Midtown Dickens, and more on Saturday. DiggUp Tapes, an upstart Raleigh label that is home to local favorites Lonnie Walker and emerging TOW3RS, have assembled two impressive parties—the first on Friday, Sept. 9, at The Hive and the second on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Kings Barcade. Newcomers like Team Clermont from Athens, GA and Arbor Ridge Studios in Chapel Hill have jumped in to present inaugural showcases, while 307 Knox Records, Mann’s World blog, Layabout House and many others return with a second helping of afternoon treats.
Lastly, we’re extremely pleased to announce two first year events that we hope become festival traditions. The Hopscotch Hepcat is a cycling race designed to celebrate three distinct things: bikes, music, and cats. It’s a charity event with super prizes and a diverse list of sponsors, with proceeds benefiting the Raleigh no-kill shelter SAFE Haven for Cats. The Hopscotch Charity Basketball Game Presented by Nike will feature music, food, drinks, special surprises and, you guessed it, musicians playing basketball. Proceeds will go to benefit Raleigh’s Helping Hand Mission. More details on these events are coming soon.
As always, please stay tuned to these outlets for information. We thank everyone for their support:
