A-Trak and Holy Ghost! added to Hopscotch 2013; Big Boi to play Sept. 21

Submitted on Jul 27, 2013

As we noted last week, Big Boi will not perform in Raleigh City Plaza on Friday, Sept. 6, as part of Hopscotch 2013. He has a month-long commitment elsewhere, and he is unable to make it to Raleigh during the festival. We learned of this unexpected conflict very recently and have since worked hard to bring you the best possible solutions on two fronts: The Raleigh City Plaza show on Friday, Sept. 6, promises to be a massive party with A-Trak, Holy Ghost!, Future Islands, and Gross Ghost, and Big Boi will now perform on Saturday, Sept. 21, to make up his missed festival date. All the key information on both events, as well an important ticketing update, follows.

Iconic DJ and electronic music maverick A-Trak will headline Hopscotch’s main stage on Friday, Sept. 6. At the age of 15, A-Trak won the 1997 DMC World Championships on his way to becoming the first person ever to sweep all three major international DJ competitions. In 2004, Kanye West recruited A-Trak to become his touring DJ; together, the two played stadiums worldwide, as well as the Grammys and MTV Video Music Awards. He is the co-founder of innovative New York label Fool’s Gold (Kid Cudi, Danny Brown, Flosstradamus, etc.), and he’s recently wowed huge audiences at Bonnaroo, Coachella, Ultra, and many of the globe’s largest outdoor festivals. His collaboration with Armand Van Helden, Duck Sauce, is one of the most in-demand electronic acts in the world. We’re thrilled to have him perform on Hopscotch’s main stage in only five weeks.

Joining A-Trak for their first ever appearance in the Triangle will be Holy Ghost!, the Brooklyn band currently on the road with New Order. The week after Hopscotch, Holy Ghost! will release their second album, Dynamics, on DFA Records. The record’s first single, “Dumb Disco Ideas,” is an eight-minute scorcher filled with the sort of synth bursts and soaring vocals that will have fans of former Holy Ghost! tourmates LCD Soundsystem smiling. Live, Holy Ghost! are a kinetic six-piece fixated on mass movement. Their Hopscotch show will come just ahead of appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Late Show with David Letterman. It will be a banner fall for Holy Ghost!, and Hopscotch is excited to help kick it off.

Raleigh favorites and Hopscotch alums Future Islands and Gross Ghost remain on the bill as planned Friday night.

We would like to thank all of the artists involved for their consideration and flexibility. We cannot wait for the party in City Plaza.

Friday, Sept. 6, Hopscotch @ Raleigh City Plaza
A-Trak 9:40-11:00 p.m.
Holy Ghost! 8:20-9:20 p.m.
Future Islands 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Gross Ghost 5:40-6:20 p.m.

Big Boi:
Though Big Boi will no longer be part of the Raleigh City Plaza bill on Friday, Sept. 6, we have worked closely with his team to schedule a Hopscotch make-up show on SATURDAY, SEPT. 21, at Raleigh’s MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM.  This will be Big Boi's first-ever solo show in Raleigh. Big Boi regrets having to make this postponement announcement so close to the festival, and he and his team have been as committed as we have to finding the best possible solution.

The first 1,000 tickets for Big Boi at Memorial Auditorium on SATURDAY, SEPT. 21, will be available to Hopscotch wristband buyers for FREE. These 1,000 tickets will be available at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Raleigh when Hopscotch wristband distribution begins Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 12 p.m. WE WILL DISTRIBUTE THESE TICKETS UNTIL THEY ARE GONE, AND ONLY ONE TICKET WILL BE GIVEN PER VIP, 3-DAY, or 1-DAY FRIDAY WRISTBAND. To obtain your Big Boi ticket, simply ask the volunteer who is assisting you at the Sheraton. No tickets will be given away without the redemption of an applicable wristband.

The Big Boi show in Memorial Auditorium will be General Admission. All remaining tickets will go on sale Tuesday, August 13, at 10 a.m. through http://hopscotchmusicfest.com/tickets/.

If you purchased a Single City Plaza Ticket for Friday, Sept. 6, as of Tuesday, July 30, we will contact you directly with a free pass for the Saturday, Sept. 21, make-up show. The ticket you purchased is still valid for the Hopscotch headlining show in Raleigh City Plaza on Friday, Sept. 6, and you will receive a free ticket to Big Boi on Saturday, Sept. 21. You do not have to visit the Sheraton Hotel during the festival to receive a free ticket.

Refunds:
If you have already purchased a single City Plaza ticket for Friday, Sept. 6, or a VIP, 3-Day, or 1-Day Friday Pass to Hopscotch 2013 and you want a refund because of Big Boi’s postponement, you can email ETIX at support@etix.com by Tuesday, August 6, to request one. We will accommodate your request for a refund, and we apologize for any inconvenience this postponement has caused.
