Hopscotch adds four bands, updates schedule
Submitted on Aug 10, 2011
Hopscotch Music Festival is excited to announce the addition of four bands to its second annual spree, scheduled for Sept. 8–10, 2011, in downtown Raleigh. The Men—a hard-to-tag, pan-punk quartet from Brooklyn—will join an already stacked rock bill at Slim’s on Saturday, Sept. 10, while the gorgeous songs of Carrboro’s Fan Modine will take top billing at Tir na nOg on Thursday, Sept. 8. Hospitality, a highly lauded and incredibly charming new pop trio from New York, will now headline at The Union on Friday, Sept. 9. And, in the biggest band-addition news, Bloomington, Ind.’s resplendent Dreamers of the Ghetto will now open for Superchunk and The Flaming Lips in Raleigh City Plaza, on Saturday, Sept. 10. Their appearance in Raleigh comes just a month ahead of the release of their incredible debut LP, Enemy/Lover, on Temporary Residence Ltd. These additions push the Hopscotch 2011 band count past 150 acts.
Unfortunately, two bands have had to cancel their Hopscotch 2011 appearances: The Light Pines, who were previously schedule to open for The Flaming Lips and Superchunk, have broken up. Also, Apex Manor has canceled all of its 2011 appearances, including its Hopscotch stop.
With these changes come a few schedule shifts: J Mascis will now play Fletcher Opera Hall with The Necks, Rhys Chatham and Steve Gunn on Thursday, Sept. 8; the Dinosaur Jr frontman will headline. Fan Modine takes Mascis’ former slot at Tir na nOg. Bass Drum of Death and Royal Bangs will now play an hour later at Slim’s on Saturday, Sept. 10, to accommodate the addition of The Men. Spider Bags and Last Year’s Men have swapped places on Thursday’s bill with The Love Language and Black Lips at Lincoln Theatre. Stuart McLamb of The Love Language will also replace Apex Manor’s Ross Flournoy at a panel on narrative songwriting at Raleigh City Museum during the afternoon of Friday, Sept. 9.
Additionally, schedule times for the shows in Raleigh City Plaza (or Old Fayetteville St. Mall) have been set and are now available on the Hopscotch website. For a recap of all these updates, visit www.hopscotchmusicfest.com/schedule.
Tickets for Hopscotch Music Festival are still available. As of August 10th, less than 100 All-Show wristbands and 40 Club remain. Plenty of single tickets for the Guided by Voices and Drive-by Truckers show on Friday, Sept. 9 and The Flaming Lips and Superchunk bill on Saturday, Sept. 10 remain. To purchase those, visit www.hopscotchmusicfest.com/tickets.
