Hopscotch Presents Real Estate, Twerps, & Old Bricks April 6
Submitted on Feb 02, 2012
The 2012 Hopscotch lineup will be announced Wednesday, April 18. We’re planning some events to celebrate that release date, and today, we’re pleased to tell you about the first one. On First Friday, April 6, Hopscotch presents Real Estate, Twerps, and Old Bricks at Raleigh’s Lincoln Theatre. This show is FREE. Doors are at 8 p.m.
New Jersey’s Real Estate released one of last year’s best albums with Days, a coming-of-age LP that dealt with love and sadness, nostalgia and reality through a sepia-toned take on jangling pop. Real Estate's perfect brace of gently steady melodies makes them ideal tourmates for Australia’s Twerps, a young band who recasts the ’90s pop wave of its own continent with vigor and charm. The songs from their self-titled debut, released last October by the excellent Underwater Peoples, should sit perfectly as a segue to spring. The Triangle’s Old Bricks, responsible for a great 2011 record of their own, will open this three-piece bill.
While this show is FREE, we are asking for your help. As you may know, the North Carolina legislature has proposed an amendment to the state’s constitution to ban same-sex marriage. All registered voters can vote on the issue during the GOP presidential primary on May 8. To oppose this amendment and raise awareness about the voting date, we will be collecting donations at the door for THE COALITION TO PROTECT NORTH CAROLINA FAMILIES, a state-wide organization working to defeat Amendment One. Regardless of political affiliation, we urge you to vote against this amendment—this is a human rights issue, not a political one.
Please help fight discrimination with us. Your vote matters.
