Hopscotch & Sparkcon Present: Moment’s Note, photographs of North Carolina music
Submitted on Aug 26, 2011
Hopscotch Music Festival is pleased to announce Moment’s Note, its first collaboration with the Raleigh creative conference, SPARKcon. This photo show, scheduled to run throughout September, will feature more than 30 photos from 16 area photographers as part of a unique installation in a downtown apartment. The pictures themselves focus largely on North Carolina musicians, many of whom played Hopscotch last year and many of whom are scheduled to play Hopscotch this year. The acts captured in Moment’s Note include Superchunk, Doc Watson, The Avett Brothers, Bowerbirds, the Mountain Goats, Birds of Avalon and The Love Language.
Both Hopscotch and SPARKcon work to drive an artistic spirit in Raleigh throughout the year, but because both occur annually during September, they’ve been working since 2010 on ideas for collaboration. This photo show—a co-presentation organized by SPARKcon volunteer Rodney Boles and Hopscotch’s Grayson Currin and Greg Lowenhgaen—should serve as the start of a string of partnerships between the two organizations.
Moment’s Note will be held in apartment No. 113 at Palladium Plaza, located at 444 South Blount St. The apartment entrance is accessible from Blount Street and is located less than one block away from the Lincoln Theatre, a Hopscotch venue and home to Hopscotch’s Rosebuds & Friends free day party on Saturday, Sept. 10.
The show will open Friday, Sept. 2, as part of Raleigh’s monthly First Friday Art Walk. The show will then reopen during both Hopscotch and SPARKcon, providing two more weekends in which to see the selected photographs. Moment’s Note is presented by Hopscotch and SPARKcon and sponsored by ReverbNation, Big Boss Brewing and Whole Foods Market.
