Numbtongue (Columbia SC) is an avant-garde pop outfit with twinges of soul, psychrock, grunge & funk. Self-released & self-produced albums “Exhumation” (2017) & “Phantom Limbs” (2022) have seen what began as a side project of Bobby Hatfield find its footing both in solo and full band iterations. With an ever evolving lineup of live musicians, the songs become what they must. The band is at once frenetic yet precise, in a broader canvas of dynamics than its lofi source material. Yet it never sacrifices the intimacy of the solo performance. Neither is meant to transcend the other as much as clarify in foil.
