Who mows 7 acres with a push mower? MIDS singer Dylan Dickerson confronts the fact that he did just that in the song “WRENCH LIFE” on the band’s second EP. While most bands are chasing fame and fortune, MIDS is solely focused on one thing: riffs. The guitar parts of Roger Caughman and Jon Warf stay ripping as they push and pull against each other, blending into one dynamically saturated fuzz. Balance that with Michael Crawford’s hammering drums and Cam Powell’s basslines, which flow in a gyre around the beat. At times they’ll bleed out a jam; at others they’ll fire off a minute-and-half banger. Sometimes that’s all it takes to get the job done. Spliff up, throw on that ‘91 Alice in Chains shirt that you paid $250 for on eBay, and prepare for your bones to rattle at their live show.
