Indie art rock quartet The Auxiliary “feels like something from the future or maybe from an alternate universe.” (American Pancake) Changing directions abruptly after a decade of touring as a solo acoustic act, Russell Howard founded The Auxiliary as an electronic solo project, reimagining his songwriting within layers of synths and vocoders. With the addition of drummer Brad Porter (Wild Fur), guitarist Ross Gruet (Automatic Loveletter), and bassist/multi-instrumentalist Jared McEntire, The Auxiliary has quickly evolved into a vibrant pastiche of indie rock, new-wave, and pop, gleefully mixing and matching sounds from Paul Simon and The Talking Heads to Tame Impala and Bon Iver while oscillating between brooding melancholy, pulsating optimism, and political angst.
