Composed in 1964 by pioneering American composer Terry Riley, ‘In C’, is one of the most well-known and widely performed pieces of music to emerge from the minimalist movement. Its score directs any number of musicians to repeat a series of 53 melodic fragments in a guided improvisation, lending performers and arrangers open license for scale, duration, and style of interpretation.
For Hopscotch 16, an ad hoc ensemble of local and touring musicians, led by Frank Meadows (Fust, Dear Life Records) and Elise Jaffe (Truth Club), will perform a unique version of the piece honoring the spirits of community and genre-bending that define Hopscotch
