Ancestor Piratas

Ancestor Piratas is the music project of Peruvian musician and visual artist Renzo Ortega, based in Carrboro, NC. Ancestor Piratas' music is a mix of electronics, punk, and cumbia sung in Spanish, with lyrics and sounds that embrace the movement for music without borders. Renzo has been performing and recording music for over 30 years, playing political and love songs in different locations, including museums and DIY art spaces in Lima, New York, Texas, Chicago, Washington DC, North Carolina, Berlin, and México City. Renzo is an accomplished visual artist who has exhibited in art institutions and museums and created commissioned public art murals. In the past, he performed in different music projects, including the pioneer electronic Peruvian duo Cuerpos del Deseo and the New York immigrant band R-Tronika.
