Charlie Chimi

Charlie Chimi - alter ego of Dominican raised Cuban artist Charles Garmendia - is the globe trotting kaleidoscopic creator of “La China de la Gasolina”, playing percussions for Zamrock legends WITCH, Juan Wauters amongst other artists, as well as visual artist and studio musician.

Like the famous Dominican Street Burgers the project is named after, his music is a spicy melange of afro-cuban rhythms spiced with funk bass lines and topped with inventive word plays about making lunch and the nature of deception in the animal planet.

Charlie has assembled an international team of “Chimis” to “run the Numbers” for him in a dizzying theatrical performance that feels like peeping into the hazy back room of a bodega where old men are playing dominoes while listening to bachata on blast through the wormhole of a cosmic sandwich.

Charlie Chimi’ss debut single “Échale Candela” was written and recorded in Havana, Cuba and it was released in June through Club Coco, Rush Hour Record’s sublabel created and curated by Coco Maria. Full Album coming out soon.
