Long Relief formed in Raleigh, North Carolina in 2021, inspired by local institutions like Superchunk and Finger as well as the DIY punk of the Sidekicks, the expressive indie rock of the Weakerthans, and Dinosaur Jr.'s noisy guitar rock. They released their debut EP, No Growth, in 2023 and followed it up with appearances at Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh and the Fest in Gainesville, Florida.
In 2024, the band began recording their first full-length, Win Some, Lose Some, with engineer and mixer Greg Elkins (Whiskeytown. American Aquarium, Late Bloomer) at Pershing Hill Sound in Raleigh. The songs on Win Some, Lose Some are a timely reckoning with love, loss, labor, and disillusionment from the American dream, and feature guest spots from Kaitlin Grady (cello), Joshua Duncan (saxophone), and Franny Starlight (trumpet).
