Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about Hopscotch? Please read the answers below before emailing info@hopscotchmusicfest.com with any questions you may have.

1. When and where do the bands play?

Hopscotch happens Thursday, Friday, and Saturday - September 6, 7, and 8.

The only bands playing Raleigh City Plaza are The Jesus and Mary Chain, Built to Spill, and Zammuto on Friday, Sept. 7, and The Roots, Escort, and Shirlette and The Dynamite Brothers on Saturday, Sept. 8. These shows will begin around 5:30 p.m. and end by 10 p.m.

The rest of the 165-plus acts will play at these 14 clubs: Berkeley Café, Contemporary Art Museum (CAM Raleigh), Deep South the Bar, Five Star, Fletcher Opera Theater, The Hive @ Busy Bee, Kings Barcade, The Lincoln Theatre, The Long View Center, Memorial Auditorium, The Pour House Music Hall, Slim’s, Tir Na Nog, and White Collar Crime. These shows will begin at 8:30 p.m., 9 p.m., or 9:30 p.m. each night depending on the club.

See a map of the festival layout here.

A complete schedule with show times and venue information will be available in July.

2. Have all the bands playing Hopscotch been announced?

Yes, you can view the entire lineup here. The lineup is subject to change.

3. How do I attend Hopscotch?

All ticket options are listed here.

4. I’m not sure I want to buy a ticket until I know when and where my favorite bands are playing. What should I do?

You will need a 3-day wristband, 1-day pass, or a single Raleigh City Plaza ticket to see bands at Hopscotch. In July, along with the schedule release, the 1-day passes and sinlge City Plaza tickets will become available. A very limited number of individual tickets to single shows may be sold at the door of club venues for $30. These will only become available after all 3-day wristband holders have been admitted and based on capacity, may not be available at all. These $30 tickets only apply to the specific club venue at which you buy them—meaning you will not have the ability to enter various venues like you do with all other Hopscotch wristbands. None of these $30 tickets will be sold in advance.

5. What is the age limit of each venue for the festival?

Raleigh City Plaza is all ages.

Deep South the Bar, The Hive @ Busy Bee, The Pour House Music Hall, and Slim's are 21+.

All other venues are 18+.

6a. Do I have to wait in line at each club?

Admission to the club shows is based on two factors: the legal capacity of the club and age limit. If you arrive at a club that is not at capacity, and you have a wristband, you will be admitted if you are old enough. If you arrive at a club that is at full capacity, admittance will be done in a one-in/one-out fashion, regardless of which type of wristband you have. VIP Wristband holders will stand in an express line allowing them priority access.

6b. How does Hopscotch control which clubs are at capacity?

Because fan experience has been a priority from the very beginning and because we don’t enjoy waiting in line anymore than you do, we do not oversell the festival. The amount of wristbands for sale should cut down on lines and wait times. That said, if a certain club show attracts more fans than a show at another club at the same time, it is up to the individual fan to decide whether to stay in line or seek out a different club. We cannot control the amount of people who go to a club at a specific time. Two of the best features of Hopscotch are the close proximity of the venues and the overall lineup. A very short walk—or a free ride on the Larry’s Beans Veggie Shuttle—will probably eliminate your wait to see great music.

6c. Will you be updating me about the festival throughout the actual weekend?

Yes, we will continue to update fans via this website, Twitter, and Facebook about bands, day parties, the Edward McKay Used Books & More Cultural Series, and everything else related to Hopscotch all weekend long.

7. How do I redeem my E-ticket for a 3-day wristband?

If you have an E-ticket for a VIP, All-Show, or 1-day pass, you must exchange it for your wristband in September during our ticket redemption periods. Details about E-ticket redemption will be announced in August.

If you have an individual E-ticket for a Raleigh City Plaza headlining show, please hold on to it. It is your ticket to the show and will be scanned at the venue (Raleigh City Plaza) for admittance.

8. What is not allowed in Raleigh City Plaza?

Weapons, food, drink, chairs, bicycles, SLR cameras, dogs, and large bags or backpacks are not permitted in Raleigh City Plaza during the headlining shows.
